RoboScout DTC (short for DARPA Triage Challenge) is a collaborative project with the University of Maryland at College Park (UMD), the University of Maryland UAS Research and Operations Center (UROC), and the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Technical Approach
- Collect and use data to train AI perception algorithms to support stand-off strategies including computer vision, motion tracking, and speech recognition integrating data from multiple standoff sensor stream
- Construct sensor-algorithm systems that assess the ability to move, severe hemorrhage, respiratory distress, and alertness using multi-modal sensing approaches on sensor-equipped UxVs
- Deploy multiple mobile robotic sensor platforms with onboard signal processing algorithms to autonomously collect sensor data and provide real-time casualty localization, identification, and injury assessment.
System Deployment & Initialization
- Operator initiation; transit UxVs to launch area and power up
- UxVs establish communication with ground station and each other
- Initial operator commands: initiate and activate UxV search pattern
Search, Detect, & Localize
- UAV Broad Area Survey using cameras to detect casualties
- UAV localize casualties with lat/long coordinates
- Label ambulatory or non-ambulatory
Data Collection to Inform Assessment
- UxV Level 1 Drop-In (2-5 meters): Dispatch UxV and perform Airway Triage & Assessment
- UxV Level 2 Drop-In (1-2 meters): Dispatch UxV to perfom Breathing and Circulation Triage & Assessment
Sensor Platforms (UxVs)
